The 31st AFACCT Conference: Rejuvenating Yourself, Your College, and Your Students was hosted by Chesapeake College and held on January 7-8, 2021. We had a wonderful variety of presenters sharing skills, perspectives and insights on topics that ranged from self-care in a COVID-19 context to best practices and skills for operating in a virtual classroom to sharing perspectives and content knowledge in their area expertise. Including our 2 Keynote sessions, 120 presenters contributed to our state-wide learning experience!
We were excited by the level of excitement and participation by faculty members across the state! We had 492 registered attendees. Sessions were well-attended and faculty were active in the chat rooms, polls and discussion boards.
Although we all had a bit of a learning curve with adapting to the online setting, we have received many positive comments in the overall conference evaluation. Comments such as ‘The [keynote] speakers set the tone each morning. Kudos to the team for pushing through and ensuring we had the learning in place – even from home’ reminds us all how important these types of collaboration are, particularly when we often feel isolated working from home. We also received valuable feedback to help us understand ways to improve on our first attempt at a virtual conference.
For those who could not attend the conference, presenters were invited to share their presentations permanently via the 2021 Conference Proceedings. We are in the process of preparing the contributed sessions to be displayed on our website in April (https://afacct.org/conferences/proceedings/).
We are already making plans for the 32nd Annual AFACCT Conference set for January 13 and 14, 2022. The conference will be hosted by Frederick Community College, with a focus on change and growth. As you move through the year consider how you engage … with your students, colleagues, content and community. What nuggets of insight would you like to contribute to our community college community?
AFACCT offers a unique venue to network with your colleagues and share your expertise and ideas.
